I had an auto accident several years ago, after which I experienced neck pain that would radiate up in front of my ear, causing an ear ache. A year ago, my jaw started popping, then locking. It affected my eating. The pain became constant, but I couldn’t find anyone that could help me. I thought I would just have to learn to live with this condition. Thankfully, when I went for my annual teeth cleaning, I mentioned my pain to my dentist, who referred me to Dr. Van der Werff. At my first appointment, I found the office to be so friendly and welcoming, and Dr. Van der Werff was so kind, and he listened to me. (I felt heard!) He then diagnosed me, and gave me some options for treatment. One option I chose was “Neural Therapy” which is needleless acupuncture, along with some exercises I could do on my own. My pain levels have gone from a constant 4-5/10 to now a 0-2/10. I am so pleased! I feel so blessed.

I had unusual gum sensitivity, pain and redness that my dentist wanted a second opinion for diagnosis. He referred me to Dr. Van der Werff, since he is a specialist for oral facial pain and oral medicine. Dr. Van der Werff was able to diagnose me, and since my condition is not curable, has put me on a regimented treatment that has brought me relief. Also, Dr. Van der Werff’s staff is very professional, caring and thorough. I was pleased to find that my insurance covers my treatment.

In January 2007 I became a patient of Dr. John Van Der Werff for Temporal Mandibular Joint disorder (TMJ). I had severe pain in my jaw joints. I had previously had surgery on both sides of the jaw and still had discomfort and my jaw locking when eating or yawning. Dr. Van der Werff took x-rays and made plans to develop appliances for me to wear at night. After wearing the appliance there was a great deal of improvement and little discomfort. I continue to see Dr. Van der Werff yearly for a checkup. The staff is very professional, caring and personal. They always made me feel comfortable, welcome and caring that my needs were being met.

I tried the CPAP when I was first diagnosed with Sleep Apnea. I just could not get used to it. It was so uncomfortable. If the seal broke it would make a loud noise and wake me up. I tried many masks and other devices and it still did not work well for me. The oral appliance that Dr. Van der Werff fitted for me is wonderful, comfortable and so easy to use. It fits in a small box so that it’s great for when I travel. So much more superior to the CPAP. Dr. Van der Werff and his staff are so friendly and accommodating.
